"To My Dear and Loving Husband" Comparison

Anne Bradstreet talks about her eternal love for her husband.  We could describe their relationship as passionate, caring, loving, warm. devoted, and tender.  Now think about a couple (real life, tv, movie, or book) that has a relationship that is similar.  Discuss the comparisons between the relationships.  Please use pieces of the poem to show the relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Bradstreet as well as specific examples about the couple you know that complete the circle of love blog you're writing.

  1. The couple that comes to my mind when I think of the poem by Anne Bradstreet is Petta and Katniss from the Hunger Games. From what Petta and Katniss went through in the Hunger Games and how the Puritians were back in their time. Some comparisions are caring, forever loving because of what they went through together, wanting of each other, they would do anything for each other, they will go through anything life throws at them with each other, and genuinly love each other. For Katniss and Petta all they wanted to do was to keep each other alive. For Anne and her husband I'm sure they stuck togther when coming over to the colonies, through 8 kids too. In the poem a line says, "If ever two were one, then surely we." For both couples that is true, if Katniss and Petta didn't become they wouldn't have won the Hunger Games and if Mr. and Mrs. Bradstreet didn't come together as one they wouldn't have been able to raise 8 kids. Another line in the poem is, "I prize thy more than whole mines of gold." Katniss and Petta have all the need from winning the Hunger Games but they don't spend their money because they have each other already. Mr. and Mrs. Bradstreet were rich but by the poem you can tell they each other more than money can buy.

  2. When I hear about this kind of love, that Anne Bradstreet is talking about in her poem, all I can think about is my grandparents. My grandpa Manson and grandma Manson are the perfect couple for this poem. My grandma and grandpa are the perfect couple for this because I can remember everytime I go over to their house, my grandpa respect my grandma so much. My grandma has ever pumped a tank of gas in her life because my grandpa Manson has always been there for her. I think that is amazing. My grandpa has set a great example for me and how to treat that speical girl in my life. My grandparents are like the poem because they have a love that will last them a lifetime and no matter they will love each other. In the poem she says they have a love that will last them a lifetime and my grandparents have that. Also she said she wants other couples to have that kind of love they have, my grandparents have set that example in my life because they respect each other so much and they love each other so much. This poem and my grandparents go together so well.

  3. My grandparents' relationship was like the relationship in the poem by Anne Bradstreet in many ways. My Grandpa and Grandma Kloser raised 14 children together and were happily married for more than 60 years. They were together their whole lives. They never gave up on each other and their love for each other was obvious to everyone around them.
My grandma developed Alzheimer's, and even though she didn't always recognize my grandpa, he still loved her with all of his heart. My grandmother died from Alzhiemer's a year and a half ago. 2 weeks later, my grandpa died of a broken heart.
Anne Bradstreet's poem about love made me think of my grandparents. They were in love and they cherished it. I believe that they are still together today in heaven. Love is one of the greatest gifts we can be given, and I hope I can cherish the gift of love like Anne Bradstreet and my grandparents have.

  4. When I think of a couple that has eternal love I think of the movie "The Lucky One." In "The Lucky One" Logan is a marine that vows to find the girl in the picture he found while in Afghanistan. When he finds the girl he falls in love with her. When Beth finds out he has the picture of her that she gave her brother she gets extremely mad with Logan. But like in the poem Beth forgave him and let's there love live on.

  5. When I think of the poem I think of my step moms parents. They are the nicest people you will ever meet. They have been married for 68 years. They got married right after high school and grandpa went to the navy during World War II. He fought over there for four years. Back at home grandma wrote letters to him. He got to come back for about six months where grandpa got pregnant with their first kid together. Unfortunately grandpa was overseas when she had the baby. They had nine girls together and he didn't miss any other of his kids being born. To this day, they do everything together. They go on walks in the morning, have a glass of wine everynight and try to stay up with their 28 grandkids that run around their house. They are the most fit 90 year-olds ever. When I see them together it reminds me that love reall does exist. They are still as in love today as they were 68 years ago.

  6. When I think of this poem I think of the movie "The Vow." In the movie, Paige and Leo get in a bad car accident and Paige has brain damage. Leo would not stop loving Paige because he loves her so much. Paige did not remember anything since before she met Leo. This didn't stop Leo. He was there every single day since the day she was in the accident. When she was well enough to come back home, he has to convince her that she loved him, just so she would come back home with him and not her parents. When Leo was at the hospital everyday, it makes me think about when my grandma has her stroke. When grandma had her massive stroke, she was first in Iowa City. Grandpa would stay in Robins with Justin so the drive was shorter for me. She was eventually moved to Cedar Rapids, and grandpa continued staying with Justin for an even shorter commute. Finally she was moved to Manchester because she improved so much. He was with her every single day all day. It was only 90 days later that she was moved to the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Still he is up there every single day all day just sitting with her and keeping her company.

I would compare Anne Bradstreet and her husband’s relationship with my Mom and Dad’s. Through my sixteen years of life, I have never seen my parents fight. They talk through things instead of arguing, just like Anne. They are always so close and the look in their eyes shows their love for one another. My Mom and Dad would do anything for each other and they always have good things to say about each other. Anne admires her husband, just like my mom. They admire each other more than anything in the world. I think that having a healthy relationship really depends on trust and both my parents and Anne and her husband have that.

  8. When I think of the poem I think of the movie "The Notebook." In this movie, Noah and Allie meet each other and fall madly in love. They have great adventures together, but Allie has to leave at the end of the summer. Right before she has to leave, Noah and Allie get into a big fight and break up, and Allie leaves with her parents. A few years pass and Noah goes to repair a dream house and he finds Allie. But Allie had found a new man and was engaged to be married. Right before Allie gets married, she goes back to the town where her and Noah met, to set things straight with Noah. When she arrives, she finds that he had built the dream house that she and him were talking about building. Allie ends up staying at his house for a few days, and realizes that she is still in love with Noah, and that Noah never had stopped loving her either. Noah and Allie end up getting married, and Allie gets diagnosed with Alzheimer's. But Noah never gave up on her or her memory.

  9. A love that is just as strong as the Bradstreets can be found written by Edgar Allan Poe. A familiar story that is well known. the famous poem, “Annabel Lee.” They both talk about an immense love that is shared between two people. In both poems they discuss loving each other still, even after death. They talk about how they need nothing more than love from the other person. Although Poe’s poem is a bit darker, it still tells the tale of a sweet love story that even death could not destroy. Not the jealousy of the angels could perish his love for the beautiful Annabel Lee. That is how I see Anne’s relationship with her husband. she loves him more than anything in the world, and believes not even death can tgear them apart. He is more precious to her than money and riches of the world. Both can only think about the one they love in both poems. It’s obvious to me that the love and bond they shared couldn’t be severed. Perhaps Poe’s most famous line in the poem to show the love is this: “And we loved with a love that was more than love.” Both are deeply in love and want nothing more than to be with the other person, even in death. It’s clear that they both loved each other with all they had.

In Anne Bradstreet's poem, she proclaimed her love for her husband. She states how perfect they are for eachother, and how their love will never die. In the Titanic, Rose and Jack fall madly in love, and are bound to be together. Rose was supposed to marry another man until she found the love of her life and knew that she was meant to be with him forever. In the poem, she says that even when they die, they will live together, and that is how Rose and Jack are. Jack dies in the sinking of the Titanic, but Rose still lives to tell about their undieing love for eachother and how he saved her life as she was about to jump off of the ship. Rose and Jack had love that will last forever, just as the love that the Bradstreets had for eachother.

  11. In Anne Bradstreet's poem, she said that her and her husband were a one of a kind of love. That they were perfect and that other people should look up to their marriage. Well I think that my great grandpa and Grandma have the same relationship. They have been together for 70 years now, and they say that they fell in love in highschool and they think no one can love someone more than they love each other. They said there were each other first and last love. I really want a love like my great grandpa and grandma. So in a way their love is the same as Anne's love for her Husbands.

Anne Bradstreet stated, that her relationship was one of a kind, special and unique. Her relationship was exclusive and meaningful. She wants people to have the same love that she shared with her husband. When she talks about this passionate love it reminds me of my grandparents. Roger and Jean Palmer. They have been married for 60 years. My grandma was 19 and grandpa was 18 when they got married. They have always shared that special bond with each other. That bond that takes them through thick and in thin. That bond that takes care of the other when they are sick or sad. The bond that makes you feel wanted and loved. They share every day with each other. They suffered loss of two daughters. One of them including my mom and my godmother. They stuck together and reassured the other that it would all be okay. They share that special look. The time when she looks into his eyes and he looks right back into her's and smile. Because they are so in love even a blind person can see the compassion. They are going on 60 years and if you know them it will be many more. :) Roger and Jean are what true love really means.

The love is in this poem is carried by not just one person, but is carried by both of the people involved. When reading this poem it shows the love between them was consistent and strong trough tout their lives and will continue to be that way until they pass away. And even when they pass away the love would be the same and even stronger when they reach heaven. When we read this poem, the first pair of people I thought of was my grandpa and grandma Nefzger. They were the definition of love in my point of view. Everyday was never the same in the way they showed their love. Somedays it was a kiss goodnight, other days it was just picking up a gift that they saw for one another. My grandpa passed away in 2007. Since then I can still see the love staying in my grandmas life. She knows that she will be in heaven with him when the time is right and the love will be carried out beyond the gates of Heaven.

In the book Anne Bradstreet writes about how much she loves her husband. She says that she would love him even if they were poor. This love is a lot like my grandparents. My grandpa John Weber married my grandma Vee. They had 12 kids. They raised one of the best librarians ever! They loved each other very much and showed a bond like Anne and her husband. My grandpa died when I was in fifth grade my grandpa died and my grandma was very heartbroken. I felt very bad for her and I have never seen someone so sad. They truly loved each other like Anne and her husband did.

I would relate "To my dear loving husband" to the Royal family, Kate and William, in England. They are about the same because they both have a strong love. It is probably pretty tough to be married and be the next King and Queen of England. The poem states that it doesn't matter how poor or rich you are I will still love you. And the way it looks Kate and William dont need money to be in love even though they have a lot of it! But it would get annoying with all of the news, and press around you twenty four seven.

When I see my Parents all I see is Love! They have been married for 21 years, and they are still going. The affection they show for each other everyday is an obvious sign of their true love for each other. They have their daily things that don't seem like much to us, but to them it's something they have done for 21 years. They get each other, and know when something is wrong. They may disagree every once in awhile, but they get through it! My parents met down at Lake Delhi when my mom was working at the marina and my dad lives on the lake. They are six years apart, but to them age doesn't matter, the love that they have for each other does. Love is what has kept their relationship going for 21 years. I hope one day to be as happy as they are with someone else.

The only relationship I can tell you about that is close to Anne Bradstreet's is my Grandma and Grandpa Melcherts, AKA Bob and Jan Melchert. I can even tell you how they met. So Grandma was working in a coffee shop probably serving coffee. One day Bob walked in with all his friends and knew that Jan was working. Bob asked if she would like a date for the night. Jan's response was yes I would love to! Jan dropped all of her things and left with that handsome young grandpa of mine. They have been together ever since that day. I'm glad too otherwise I wouldn't be living. But enough of how they met. Anne Bradstreet said that her relationship was special and that one would could come between them. My grandparents have never left each other. They have remanded faithful. Grandpa has to put up with Grandma's talking and Grandma has to put up with Grandpa's snoring so I would call that love.

The relationship that i can think of that is as passionate as the one in "To My Dear and Loving Husband" is the relationship that the member of the football team have. The two kinds of love are different because they have a marriage love and our football team has a more of a family kind of relationship where we bond together and we go through our struggles together just like and married couple would this is why football is considered a family.

A relationship that I believe is like Anne Bradstreet with her husband is the relationship between Noah and Ali in the movie The Notebook. They were so in love and they were inseperable. When Ali had to move, her and Noah grew apart, but somehow they got back together. This reminds of Anne Bradstreet's poem because Noah and Ali lived together and loved each other until the day that they died together.

When I think of the poem “My Dear Loving Husband,” I think of the movie “Dirty Dancing.” In this movie Johnny and Baby meet and at first they in a way despise each other. After spending more and more time together, they begin to love each other. As they continue to spend time together, their love grows and grows and soon they are almost inseparable. Towards the end of the movie Johnny gets fired from his job and has to move away to find another one. They both believe that they will not see each other again, but this does not make them unsure of their feelings towards each other. In the last scene, Johnny comes back during a show that he usually performs in for his job. He knew Baby would be their because her family was on vacation their and the show was one of their biggest attractions. Johnny busted through the doors of the building, found Baby and took her on stage. They did the last dance of the year and during the scene you could see how much they loved each other by the looks in their eyes. You could also see how extremely happy they made each other and that no one could ruin that.

A relationship that is like Anne Bradstreet and her husband is my parents relationship. Every time I see them I see love. They always tell each other they love each other. I always see them smiling when they are around each other. They will do anything for each other and they never like to one another. I believe that they will will love each other till they die.

A relationship that I think is comparable to Anne Bradstreet and her husband was the relationship of my neighbor's. They married at a young age and soon purchased a farm to start their dairy operation on. Starting and working on a dairy farm is stressful, but they prevailed and eventually had three kids together. In their latter part of their marriage the husband faced a large battle, he had a massive stroke and his wife soon faced the difficulties with helping him with everything. Even through her poor health she kept him home, but she soon made the tough decision of sending him to a nursing home. What ever the weather though she visited him everyday. Now he is gone but I'm sure he is somewhere better waiting for her and I'm sure she is waiting for him.

Anne wrote about her relationship with her husband, and when I think of what she wrote all that comes to mind is my parent's relationship. They are with each other through the ups and downs, no matter what happens. My parents have been together for almost twenty years now, and their relationship is only getting stronger. Bradstreet said the relationship she is in will stay strong even in the afterlife, and my parents said this while they were renewing their vows two years ago. The couple in "To My Dear and Loving Husband" were also said to be so close that a river couldn't quench their love for each other. This kind of says that with each other, they would be lost because nothing else in the world could compare to it. My parents would be lost without each other, as well. When my father is worn out, my mother cares for him, and the other way around. I couldn't possibly think of a relationship that even remotely compares to Anne's relationship other than my own parents'.

  24. I am going to compair the realationship between Anne Bradstreet with her husband and the realatioship between a couple in the movie the notebook, Allie and Noah. They were so in love, they were seperated and there great love for each other brought them brought them back together they were crazy about each other they spent a whole summer together the only time that they were apart was when Noah was working or when they were sleeping they would even sneak out at night to see each other.

I would compare Anne Bradstreet and her husband’s marriage to Adam and Kristina Braverman’s marriage from the tv show Parenthood. Adam and Kristina have always been very committed to each other, and have always been able to work thing out together no matter what problems get in their way. One reason that I think that Adam and Kristina truly love each other is because they have a pretty chaotic family. They have a son named Max who has Aspergers. With this comes a lot of stress for the family. Max always wants everything to be a certain way, and if it’s not he gets angry. Of course Adam and Kristina know that he can’t help it, and are always supportive of him when some people in public are not. There are many times that they will be somewhere, and Max will act out of place, but Kristina and Adam always are able to make it through the stress, and still be committed to each other. They also have a daughter named Haddie who just went off to college all the way across the country. They were able to help each other through this difficult time having to say goodbye to their daughter. Adam and Kristina also have a 3rd child who is still a baby named Nora. Even though they have stressful lives sometimes they always find a way to figure things out while still being able to keep a good marriage.

  26. When I think of Annes relationship with her husband I also think of Romeo and Juliet. Everyone has heard of the story. They were so passsionately in love that they were willing to die for each other. Anne talks about how their relationship is one that others should have with their spouses and thats how romeo and juliet's is. I would love to have a relationship like either of them.

I would compare the relationship of the Bradstreet's to my grandparents. They have a very loving and long lasting commitment to each other just like the Bradstreets had. You can tell they care for each other by the things they do for each other and the fact that they've been together since high school. I am sure that they would be lost without the other, just like the Bradstreets were. They have a lot of stressful times running a business and dealing with every day things just like the rest of us but at the end of the day they always find time to spend with each other.

The two from The Notebook had every thing agenst them. The girls Parents, alshimers, they all were agents them but they made it and thats what counts.

In the movie The Vow the couple is very much in love. They met in college and hit it off right away. Their love was strong and they got married. They were driving to go out to eat and it was very snowy. They stopped at a stop sign and went to kiss each other and a big truck came up behind them, not able to stop soon enough, he slammed into the back of the car pushing the car into the intersection. The girl hit her head and was in the hospital for awhile. At the hospital her husband tried talking to her and she had no idea who he was because she lost all of her memory. They are very similar because their love for each other was very strong. For example the poem says “If two were one, the surely we.” In the end of the movie she ends up falling in love with him all over again. Which proves why their love is strong and in the poem it says, “I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold”

  30. When I think of two people having eternal love for each other I think of my parents. Every day they difine love for me, in all the little things they do for each other, that most people would miss. They care for each other and they spread that love down to us kids! I think that Branstreet's marriage would have been a lot like that. Even through the hard times they stay together and lean on the other for support and love for the times when they do not think they can make it through.

This poem reminds me of the love between my mom and stepdad. No matter how much my brother and my stepbrothers get along, my parents still are able to get through the hardships and keep the relationship going. the try hard to get them to get along, but they keep their relationship strong, even if they don't exactly agree on something.
